GPCC General Secretary Calls for Christian Unity to Drive National Development
The General Secretary of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC), Apostle Immanuel Tettey, has called on the Christian community in Ghana to move beyond denominational barriers and unite around common agenda that will contribute meaningfully to national development and moral direction.
He made this appeal while delivering a sermon at the induction service of the newly elected GPCC Volta Regional Executives at Paradise Chapel International in Ho.
The ceremony brought together clergy, church leaders, and members across the region in a spirit of worship, prayer, and unity.
The newly inducted executives include: Rev. E.E.V.K. Ackorlie, Chairman, Rev. Roger Elorm Titriku, Vice Chairman, Rev. Eric Seyram-Anku, Secretary, Rev. Perfect Kofi-Kumah, Treasurer, Rev. Andy Ugorji,Organiser.
Denominational barriers
The GPCC General Secretary, Apostle Immanuel Tettey who inducted them urged the Christian community to transcend denominational barriers and work together with a common purpose to influence both the church and national development.
Citing Ephesians 4:1–6, Apostle Tettey reminded the church of the biblical mandate for unity: “There is one body and one Spirit… one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all.” He cautioned that Christian leaders are becoming overly preoccupied with titles, instead of focusing on issues of national importance.
Drawing on 1 Corinthians 1:12–13, “Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for us? No. Our denominational founders have played their roles, but our unity in Christ must remain unshaken.” he warned against sectarianism.
“The Holy Spirit in Paradise Chapel is the same Spirit in The Apostolic Church-Ghana, Assemblies of God, Ghana, Anglican Church, Methodist Church, and other denominations. We don’t have to divide Christ. Salvation is one — it is through Christ alone,” he stressed.
National Agenda
Apostle Tettey lamented that, despite Christians being the majority in Ghana, the church has no unified national agenda. “If you ask me today, what is the Christian agenda for Ghana, we don’t have one. Everybody is fighting in their own corner. Yet, if we harmonize our voice, we can shape governance, strengthen morality, and safeguard our nation against destructive agendas such as LGBTQ,galamsey etc.” he emphasized.
He further referred Genesis 11:6 to highlight the power of unity: “When the people spoke one language and agreed on what to do, even God testified that nothing could stop them. But division destroyed their work. I pray we will not allow the devil to divide us but will stand as one and speak the same language.”
Apostle Tettey reminded the Church about the prayer and desire of our Lord Jesus Christ in John 17: 21-23 “that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one—I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.”
The induction service brought together clergy, church members, and civic leaders across the Volta Region. It also marked GPCC’s renewed commitment to fostering both spiritual growth and socio-economic transformation through unity, collaboration, and a shared Christian agenda.
