The Head Pastor of The City of Faith Assemblies of God, Rev. Patrice K. Adjei, has called on Christians to renew their attitude towards giving and service in the Kingdom of God, emphasizing that “the access mentality” among many believers has hindered genuine growth and contribution to God’s work.

Giving a sermon on the theme “Kingdom Giving”, with scripture reference from 2 Corinthians 9:2–8 on Sunday, October 19th 2025, Rev. Adjei explained that giving in the Kingdom is not limited to money, but also includes time, ideas, character, and availability.

“Giving is not just about financial contributions. It involves dedicating your time, knowledge, and skills for the advancement of God’s Kingdom,” he stated.

He noted that the “access mentality” — the tendency of believers to take God’s blessings for granted — has caused many Christians to lose sight of their true purpose. Drawing a comparison from the Garden of Eden, he said that believers have access to God’s presence, yet their negative attitudes often prevent others from experiencing His grace.

Stewardship

Rev. Adjei lamented that even within the church, including among some clergy, there are instances of misplaced priorities and poor stewardship. “From marriage to business, many of us have the hands of Esau but the voice of Jacob. We must return to integrity and sincerity in our walk with God,” he admonished.

Using a practical example, he illustrated how believers often misuse opportunities and blessings given to them:

“A pastor may give his car to a member to use for a short period, but within minutes, the member changes the radio station and mishandles the car. This shows how we misuse what we are freely given. Anything free still has a cost — it’s paid for by someone.”

Rev. Adjei stressed that none of what we possess truly belongs to us, as everything is owned by God. “We are stewards, not owners,” he said, urging believers to give cheerfully and willingly rather than waiting to be manipulated or coerced.

Pursue Higher Education

He also encouraged Christians to pursue higher education and personal development to enable them to occupy positions of influence and contribute meaningfully to national development.

“When we talk about Kingdom giving, it’s not only about money. It’s about giving yourself — your skills, your knowledge, your time — to protect and grow the treasure God has entrusted to you,” he emphasized.

Rev. Adjei cautioned against laziness and complacency among Christians, urging them to move out of their comfort zones and stop making excuses when it comes to giving or serving.

“Many believers use their jobs as excuses to skip church and neglect their responsibilities to the Kingdom. If we truly understand our relationship with God — as stewards serving an owner — we will give purposefully and joyfully,” he concluded.

He ended with a call to action: “Let us put Kingdom First! and give wholeheartedly to advance the work of God.”
